Alton towers seems to be staffed entirely by divvy 17 year olds, it's not surprising that human error occurs. You wouldn't have some divvy teen managing signals on a railway track would you?

Chad... fucked my back up for a day after riding that thing... was the same a couple of years ago when I rode it last... just seems to be that fucking thing...unless it was the KC and the sunshine band that was being blared in my ears... not a harry Potter fan but that Escape from Gringots was excellent... not sure where you can go after that !

Family live near it and the park creates a lot of local employment, particularly for young people.

Alton is horrendous in the summer with the traffic though, which is a shame as it's a nice little village.

Heart London News have just mentioned the girl who has had her leg amputated followed by a story about Oscar Pistorius.

"Look on the bright side " said the paramedic.

"Next time you come to Alton Towers , you can get to the front of the queue in you wheelchair ".

Re: Alton Towers rollercoaster crash
What amazes me is that apparently the collision happened at around 20 mph which is strange as some say it happened coming out of a loop the loop so I assumed it would be faster but at 20 mph for the front to buckle so much to cause such serious leg injuries means obviously that all the concentration on safety mechanisms seem to be making sure you don't fall out rather than having a head on collision with something. I see a redesign and strengthening of the front of cars after this.

I bet that poor girl didn't think she would be losing a leg on the drive to Alton that morning!

Human error in large part too. If you're sending a test car round the track to check everything's working properly, then surely you WAIT FOR IT TO COME BACK before sending people round...

Exactly! You 'know' you're safe but the fact all your weight is on it with no backup mechanism just terrifies you the whole way round. Real adrenalin rush.

I believe my words were pretty similar to yours!

That's exactly the same seat mechanism as the Manta at Seaworld and that's exactly why I was terrified on it!

All your weight hanging on a bit that moves.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!! was what I said all the way round.

Re: Alton Towers rollercoaster crash
Poor girl.

You just assume roller coasters are safe these days, given all the safety mechanisms. I've only ever felt scared on one roller coaster in my entire life. This one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatsu

Entirely due to how the harnesses work. One bolt breaking would send you hundreds of feet to your death out of the harness- not even one of those seatbelt type clips for extra insurance! Fucking brilliant coaster though.

I was on the Kraken at Seaworld on Friday.

Sitting at my desk in the office now, already feels like ages ago.

Poor kid. You certainly don't go to these places expecting your life to change for ever because of a rollercoaster!
